Meet Cricket! My 2 year-old rescue. We adopted her at 4 months-old knowing only that her mom was a Pitt Bull who died at birth. Soon after she moved in, we ordered a doggy DNA kit and swabbed her mouth to learn her true breed makeup. When the results came back, we were a surprised to learn that BOTH parents AND BOTH sets of grand parents were 100% PItty! This was our first Pitt Bull and boy were we in for a surprise.
The surprise was, and continues to be that she loves everyone she meets (animal and human) and is afraid of cats, chickens, other dogs, plastic bags, and leaves that move in the wind. When she meets another dog, large or small, she almost immediately lays at their feet or shows her belly. But she is eager to see who we might meet on our hikes - her favorite activity.
Cricket's message is this: Every person we meet on our journey's path is a potential connection. Even a simple "hello" might make a difference in someone's day. Paths cross. You may be headed to your destination filled with celebration and joy, and cross paths will a person who just received a cancer diagnosis. A kind word and notice of another human at a minimum does not detour you from your life's journey, and just might make the trip a little better.
